Mgoun Canyoun is well known as Mgoun Gorge there is a lovely trek down in to the gorge which is available just in summer time as you will walk in the water. This trek start from the Happy valley of Ait Bougmez via Mgoun Gorge and will end in the Rose valley. Mgoun is a popular place for trekking in morocco with many options available to the walker.
Itinerary
Day 1: MARRAKECH – Ouzoud Waterfalls – Ait Bougmez (1600 M)
Pick up from your Hotel or Riad in Marrakech to visit North’s Africa largest waterfalls, Ouzoud Warefalls. You will cross the Aghbar pass with panoramic views of the M’Goun range, discovering the Aït Abbas Valley (red valley), and then arriving at Aït Bougmmaz Valley (happy valley). Spend the night in a Berber house.
Day 2: Bougmez – Tizi N,Ait Imi (2900m) – Tigrhmet Nait Ahmed (2250m)
After Breakfast in our Gite in Aït Bougmmaz Valley (happy valley), we will meet with our local crew (mule drivers and cook) and then depart for the trek, crossing Ait Imi village. Then walking up to Tizi Nait Imi, where we will get an amazing view of all Ait Bougmez valley and the Arodan Mountain range, then walk down to reach Ait Ahmed Kasbah, camping near a sheep pasture and a river.
Day 3: AIT AHMD KASBAH – IMI N’REKT (1920 M)
We will walk along the M’Goun via an excellent path with no difficult stretches and discover the Berber villages of Taghreft (2150 m), Waouchki and Ighrem Izdaren. We can see irrigated terraces and small farms where apples and potatoes are cultivated, camping near the river at the entrance of the gorge.
Day 4: IMI N’REKT – TIGHANIMIN (1790 M)
We will reach the most spectacular part of the M’goun gorge, which is protected under the national preservation program. The gorge creates a very long canyon of 1500 m. During this section, we will continue the trek exclusively in the water and creek beds (wadi M’Goun). Overnight with local Berber people.
Day 5: TIGHANIMIN – BOUTAGHRAR (1580 M)
Now the path crosses the river without stopping and we will reach the pretty village of Boutaghrar (gateway to the desert) after the Berber villages of Aguerzaka (1730 m), Issoumar (1680 m) and Timglouna (1605 m) (outstanding Ksars and Kasbahs). Night in a Gite.
Day 6: BOUTAGHRAR – MARRAKECH
Transfer back to Marrakech. We will cross the little town of Kalaat Mgouna (Roses Valley), then Ouarzazate (capital of the desert). We will cross the road pass of Tizi N’Tichka (2260 m). Back to Marrakech in the afternoon.
